Summer officially begins this month(summer solstice is June 21) and that will mean much external heat. In an effort to create balance between yin and yang it is very important to include cooling and neutral foods and drinks in your meal planning this summer.
In Chinese Medicine we consider the environment and the weather to be a factor in each patients health. Knowing how to balance the external heat of the Summer with cooling foods will help you to maintain health physically and emotionally as well. In an effort to help my patients maintain balanced health I have made a list of foods to take with you shopping.
Fruits:
watermelon
cantaloupe
honeydew melon
apples
banana
papaya
mango
peaches
plums
berries
lemons and limes in water
mint in water
Vegetables:
seaweeds
white mushrooms
spinach
chard
artichoke
lettuce
asparagus
cucumbers
always choose organic produce when you can.
tea:
mint
chamomile
green
white
Will do Lady Lake…here is to summer and the abundance of fruits and vegetables we have.
